The district has taken a lead in introducing ‘Saadi Rasoi’ scheme in the state to offer food for everyone for Rs 10.

The project will be run by the District Red Cross Society and meals would be served to the poor from 10 am to 3 pm daily from a portion of the old SSP office. Located in the heart of the town, a special dining hall has been constructed and big tables have been placed there for the convenience of the people. To save on manpower, the scheme will be self-service.
DC Isha Kalia, ADCs Jarnail Singh and Arvind Kumar had the meals at the launch of the initiative of providing affordable food to the needy. Kalia said Fazilka is the first district to initiate the scheme. The DC said a meal consists of four rotis, a vegetable serving, rice and dal. Four women have been engaged to prepare the meal.
The Congress in its manifesto had announced to provide meals for Rs 5 only.
