Chandigarh, June 18

The saang “Seth Tara Chand” was staged at jampacked Tagore Theatre during the 10th Haryanavi Folk Theatre Festival today. The absorbing storyline weaved in a rustic background by legendary Haryanavi playwright Pandit Lakhmi Chand and directed by Mohan Shakeel, the saang gave the message of keeping faith in god as well as your religion for a disciplined life.

The three-hour-long drama unfolded the sordid tale of a wealthy and devout Seth Tara Chand of Delhi, who on the advice of close relations abandons performing charity. The destiny wills otherwise and he suffers losses to the extent that he was forced to mortgage his six-year-old son Chandragupt to Mansa Seth of Hapud. Chandergupt shines as a business prodigy and marries Dharam Maliti, daughter of a rich seth, Mangaldeep. As ordained by luck, Chandergupt leaves her in sleep and returns to Hapud. After many twists and turns to project the woman as goddess, the family is united due to efforts of Malti. The presentation was interspersed with witty jokes, humour, dance and folk singing. Chief guest Harwinder Malik honored the artistes.

The saang “Narsi Ka Bhaat” will be staged tomorrow.
