A delegation of the SAD (Delhi) today met Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh and took up the issue of alleged sacrilege of religious books by a Hoshiarpur-based dera.

The delegation was led by Jaswinder Singh Baliyewal. It handed over to the Jathedar a detailed representation on the issue. Party leaders alleged the dera was sending a huge consignment of religious books published by it to foreign countries for which it had roped in a Ludhiana-based firm. They alleged the company had dumped these books in a godown along with grocery items, cigarettes and liquor bottles.

A number of “Gutkas” and other religious books (kept in 519 boxes) were damaged due to seepage and termite, they said. “When we confronted company officials, they admitted that they’ve booked a container to send these books abroad. We swung into action and managed to stop the delivery of the consignment,” they said.
