SAIL to develop car steel with ArcelorMittal, says Birender

Union Steel Minister Birender Singh said here today that Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) worth Rs 6,000 crore with ArcelorMittal group for developing car steel.
Speaking at a workshop on ‘Emerging Issues in Indian Economy in 21st Century’ at Chaudhary Ranbir Singh University, the minister said: “SAIL and ArcelorMittal will have a combined research module and develop steel especially for car manufacturing which will ensure the safety of people in case of minor or major accident.”
He said: “28 per cent of the world’s cars are manufacture in India which has reduced the import of vehicles from South Korea, Japan, Germany and Italy.”
“The Union government is working for economic unification and the Good Service Tax (GST) is part of it,” he said.
