Gangotri MLA Vijay Pal Sajwan presented a cheque for Rs 1 lakh to the Mahila Mangal Dal (women’s self-help group) from his MLA LAD funds at a function at Utron Gram Sabha in Uttarkashi today. He also gave sports kits and utensils to the Yuvak Mangal Dal on the occasion.
Sajwan said efforts would be made to bring the Gangotri valley on the world tourism map. He added the state government had tried to resurrect the disaster-affected Gangotri valley.
The safety walls on the banks of rivers and monsoon drains had been constructed, thus bringing sense of safety among the people of the district, he said. “The government inter-college at Utron will be developed as a model school and the problem of encroachment on the roadsides will be removed with the cooperation of people. Several 33 KV electric substations have been set up to solve the power outage problem. The power project on the Asi Ganga has been approved and the construction work will begin soon, he said.
According to Sajwan, the construction of the Gajoli to Agora road has been approved. It will boost tourism and help in generating employment in the region. Block Congress president Sudarshan Chauhan, Dayara Tourism Samiti president Manoj Rana and others were present on the occasion.
