Saplings to be planted on barren banks of Ganga

The banks of the Ganga in the state will soon become the focal point of a green plan being worked out by the Union Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation and the Ministry of Ayush.
The plan envisages planting saplings on the barren banks of the river and setting up of processing units of herbal medicines.
The Minister for River Development during her visit to Dehradun had said an eco-task force would be set up for taking up massive plantation on the river banks.
“As part of the Clean Ganga plan, efforts will be made to plant saplings on the river banks. The plan is still being conceptualised,” said Soujanya, Additional Secretary, in charge, Clean Ganga project.
The state Ayush Department is also expected to play a role in the project by setting up herbal medicine processing units. The marketing of the products, too, is being planned, which is expected to boost the local economy.
According to reports, proposed territorial Army units would be deployed in the most polluted stretches of the Ganga.
