Dalhousie, August 14
On the eve of the Independence Day, one of the great heroes of Indian freedom struggle martyr Sardar Ajit Singh, uncle of Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh, who breathed his last at Dalhousie on August 15, 1947, was remembered here at his ‘smadhi sthal’ at Punjpula today. Floral tributes were paid at the memorial.
Col JS Tanwar, Kirti Chakra, Deputy Commander 323, Mountain Brigade, was the chief guest and Dr (Capt) GS Dhillon, Director and Principal, DPS Dalhousie, presided over the function.
Addressing the gathering, Air Commander (Retd) Ashok Mahajan threw light on the history of freedom struggle of India and also gave account of the sacrifices made by martyr Sardar Ajit Singh.
An impressive cultural show was organized by the students of Dalhousie Public School (DPS), Dalhousie, under the aegis of local ‘Kalakar evam lekhak manch ’. The students presented national songs and dances which kept the audience spellbound.
