School staff, guests pledge to ensure women’s rights, dignity

To commemorate the symbol of positivity, courage and determination, International Women’s Day was celebrated with great ebullience and vigour on the DAV School premises.
Associate Professor D Ashok Chopra, Punjabi University, Patiala, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Dr Rajeev Kansal, Professor in the Commerce Department, Punjabi University, Patiala, Shama Garg and Satya Kaushal and Saroj Prabhakar were other guests on the occasion.
Principal SR Prabhakar welcomed the guests by presenting bouquets. It was followed by lighting of the ceremonial lamp by teachers and eminent guests with the recitation of Gayatri Mantra to invoke the blessings of the almighty.
This year, the theme of the event - “empowerment of women through health” - was truly accomplished when the resource person of the day, Ashok Chopra, supported by a power-point presentation, highlighted various diseases and stress caused to women with age. He also suggested a number of measures that could be adopted to cure them. He also focused on healthy eating habits.
He counted a number of ways for physical fitness, health and hygiene in his speech. He also answered several queries asked by teachers such as correct age of getting complete physical check-up and how cancer could be detected.
Later, lighting of candle ceremony depicting how a woman burns her life to illuminate life of her family was performed by a number of teachers, along with the guests.
A pledge was also administered by the Principal to the staff and the guests ensuring the dignity of women, their rights and their overall well-being.
During the pledge, stress was also laid on the message to save and educate the girl child. The guests were honoured with mementoes.
Principal SR Prabhakar guided teachers to raise their level to the global ideals and set new dimensions to DAV glory. He said women were no more an inferior sex. Rather, they were the creators of new, competent and virtuous generation. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dhanjit Kaur.
