Dr Rajendra Dobhal, Director General, UCOST, has said science acts as an engine for the development of the economy of the Himalayan states.

He said while presiding over one of the sessions on the second day of the ongoing 11th Uttarakhand Science Congress. He said for a hilly state like Uttarakhand, utilisation of the natural resources such as water, forest and soil with the latest and new technologies related to science was very essential.

Dobhal called upon educationists, researchers, scientists, technical experts and the knowledgeable general public to share their experiences for the overall betterment of Uttarakhand. He said the recommendations of each session would be presented before the gathering tomorrow in the valedictory session of the congress.

Sixteen technical sessions were organised on various disciplines such as agricultural sciences, biotechnology, biochemistry, microbiology and botany. DIT University’s Vice-Chancellor KK Raina , HNB Garhwal University’s Vice-Chancellor BK Joshi, National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee Director RD Singh were present in the congress.
