Haridwar, December 14
A five-day Bharat Scouts and Guides training camp began at the Regional Training Centre at Gayatri Shantikunj here today. Ninety-four rovers are taking part in the programme.
Coordinator of the camp Gauri Shankar Sharma inaugurated the camp and said, "Scouts means one who adheres to discipline and Guides who attains ability to guide others on the right way."
He said for decades the Scouts and the Guides had played a pivotal role in giving youths of the country overall training that comes handy during various phases of life.
“Scouts and Guides are mentally and physically stronger. They are disciplined and can face various situations better and become more mature. Such youths later become ideal citizens and contribute to society in various ways," said Sharma.
Secretary of the camp Narendra Shah said it would go on till December 18 and participants had come from Pithoragarh, Chamoli, Nainital, Uttarkashi, Khatima, Ramnagar, Badkot, Haldwani, Pauri, Tehri, Dehradun and other towns of the state.
Scouts Guides Commissioner Sita Ram Singh defined a Scout as one who is loyal, disciplined, courageous, thrifty and pure in thought, deeds and words, friendly to all, courteous, kind towards animals, nature, and creatures, and helps in protecting public property.
Prof Dhan Singh Mahodi, district organisation commissioner Mangal Garhwali, regional trainer Rahul Raturi, district secretary Krishan Dutt Uniyal, Vimla Pant, Harpal Thakur, and Ibun Hasan would coordinate various sessions of the programme.
