SDM, Samrala, Anuprita Johl today held a meeting to alert the officials concerned regarding the ban on sale of Chinese strings in the area. The SDM stated the Administration had given a week’s time to the shopkeepers of the area to destroy the stored strings and appealed them to sell Indian strings only.

She warned that the officials concerned of the Civil and Police Departments will raid the shops after a week. In case, any report is received regarding the sale of Chinese strings at Samrala, Machhiwara and other nearby areas, the violators will be booked under Section 144 of the CrPC.

The SDM further said District Magistrate, Ludhiana, had issued an order in this regard under relevant sections on the directions of the Punjab Government and she had ordered the SHOs and EOs concerned to raid shops at regular intervals to stop the sale of harmful strings.

A stern legal action will be initiated against those shopkeepers that will flout the ban orders, she added. She directed the officials concerned to make the public aware about the directive through the public address system.

Meanwhile, members of the Hospital Sudhar Committee and officials concerned of different departments were also present at the time of meeting.
