Mohali, September 10

Residents of Sector 68 here have sought the removal of a garbage dumping point created by the Municipal Corporation near the residential area.

Yashpal, a retired teacher living in the area, said the civic body had created the dumping point about a month ago. Residents had opposed the move but to no avail. Not only foul smell emanated from the area, but also it was frequented by stray animals.

He said complaints in writing had been given to the Joint Commissioner but no action had been taken so far by the authorities concerned.

He said the matter had also been brought to the notice of the area municipal councillor and the MLA.

Another resident, Renu, said residents could not even open the windows of their houses as foul smell had made their life miserable. Fear of outbreak of some disease also gripped residents. School children and others who passed from near the dumping point had to cover their noses.
