Jagraon, February 23
The Jagraon police have made elaborate security arrangements for the upcoming civic polls. The local police have been on its toes due to the Municipal Council Elections and annual Roshni Mela. The elections are scheduled for February 25 while the Roshni Mela will start tomorrow till February 26.
The local police have increased vigil in whole town to ensure peaceful civic polls. Various teams of police have been deployed in different areas to keep proper vigil. The police have also been checking the vehicles moving in and out of the city.
As the dates of civic elections collide with annual Roshni Mela, the task of maintaining peace and harmony has become tougher for the Police Department. Keeping in view the elections and annual fair, police teams led by Jagraon DSP Harinderpal Singh Parmar and station house officer (SHO) Mohamad Jamil examined a large number of vehicles at Rani Jhansi Chowk and Kamal Chowk, the places nearby the fair venue.
According to sources, the police have also rounded up some suspicious persons due to the elections while some others have been kept under supervision to avoid any untoward incident.
Senior suprintendant of police (SSP), Jagraon, Ravcharan Singh Brar said the police had made proper security arrangements to ensure that the civic polls were conducted in a smooth and peaceful way. “We are calling extra police force from other districts as well for proper vigilance in the coming days as the dates of annual Roshni Mela collides with the civic polls,” SSP Brar added.
