A two-week self defence training for women started at the RLEK Auditorium here today.
The camp, which is being organised by a social organisation for women, PRAGATI, will conclude on September 4.
The women will learn self-defence techniques from a volunteer of the Planete Urgence, France. The participants are trainers of PRAGATI, teachers from across the state and some volunteers.
The training is being imparted by Patrick Concha, a black belt in Krav Maga and Karaté. In this training, participants will be trained on personal security, including preventive protection, personal equipment, dissuasive communication-stress and spatial management and various self defence techniques. Participants will be given certificates at the valedictory function.
RLEK chairperson Avdhash Kaushal said, “With changing times, safety of women is becoming a concern. Though many laws are there, crime against women is not lessening. Hence it is important for women to learn techniques to defend themselves.”
The participants are excited. One of the master trainers from PRAGATI, Rekha Pundir, said, “The skills learnt in the training will be imparted to women enthusiasts.” Laxmi, a teacher from Van Gujjar School, Mohand, said, “We will teach these skills to our students and girls. It will also help us maintain good health.”
