Shimla, June 8
Members of the Students’ Federation of India today blocked the Summer Hill chowk for an hour in support of their demands. They have been fasting for 63 days.
SFI campus president Noval Thakur and SFI secretary Vipin said they were forced to take this step because of an indifferent attitude of the Vice-Chancellor.
Earlier, the university authorities were willing to give in writing about the time required to fulfil their demands, but the VC had rejected the proceedings, they said.
They are demanding filling of teachers and non-teaching posts, resolving problems related to RUSA implementation, restoring the Students’ Central Association elections and the basic facilities such as drinking water, toilets, construction of hostels, books in library, wi-fi on the campus. They also demanded that that the report of the high-power committee constituted to review the hiked fee structure should be made public. —TNS
