Chandigarh, April 17

The Department of Culture Affairs, Haryana, in association with the S-4 Trust, organised a scintillating spell of ghazals by versatile virtuoso Rinku Kalia, an eminent vocalist at Tagore Theatre here today. The concert dedicated to the noble cause of “beti bachao, beti padhao” witnessed a rare spell of melodic renditions of kalaams of the legendary poets by Rinku Kalia, a winner of Sa Re Ga Ma contest of a leading TV channel.

Her repertoire included complex classics, her chosen compositions, popular ghazals and hit Sufi numbers.

Opening up with a Mirza Ghalib’s classic “Ye Na Thi Hamari Kismet”, preceded by a soulful alaap and “Dil-e- Nadan”. She was at her best in Ahmed Faraz’s “Ranjish Hi Sahi”, which had to be repeated on the audience demand.

She won applause for bringing alive the tormented psyche and pathos of Shiv Batalvi through “Shikra Yaar”. Sensing the mood of the audience, she emulated Jagjit Singh through “Ye Daulat Bhi Ley Lo” before concluding with Punjabi Sufi numbers.
