Mussoorie, August 23
Several decisions were taken to curb the stray dog menace at a meeting of the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Society at the Municipal Council president’s office in Mussoorie yesterday.
Municipal Council president Manmohan Singh Mall chaired the meeting. He said an animal shelter would be constructed near the IDH building in Mussoorie to provide respite to the people from the stray dog menace. He added around Rs 60 lakh had been sanctioned for the construction of the shelter that would also be used as a centre for sterilising stray dogs.
Manmohan Mall said anti-rabies vaccines would be administered to stray dogs once the shelter starts functioning here. The Municipal Council, the state and Central governments would be sharing the cost of running the facility. Sanitary Inspector Dr RK Agarwal said dogs sterilised under the scheme would be left back in the area from where they were picked up one week after the operation.
Executive Officer DS Rana, Veterinary Doctor Dr Pradeep Mishra, Narottam Singh, forest guard Balbir Singh Rawat, and Yash Gupta attended the meeting.
