Shimla, August 27
It was a rare show of solidarity as a sea of humanity assembled on The Ridge this evening under the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, carrying lighting candles to pay homage to four-year-old Yug who was kidnapped and brutally murdered.
The Ridge was lit with candlelights and the silent crowd sent the message that their hearts were with Yug and bereaved family members. Shimla residents marched from The Ridge via The Mall Road and the procession culminated at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. The youth, women, senior citizens, mediapersons, NGOs, doctors, lawyers, businessmen, employees, students, teachers and politicians joined the initiative to send across the message that the gruesome act was unpardonable and intolerable and the people of Shimla rejected it.
The response to call given by citizens was spontaneous as the people were enraged over the first case of its kind here wherein an innocent boy was abducted and killed for ransom that too by the accused known to the family.
