Activists belonging to the Shiv Sena today allegedly harassed truckers from J&K in the presence of the police at Sherpur Chowk here.
Rajiv Tandon, said to be chairman of the Punjab Shiv Sena, said if the Amarnath yatris were harassed, they would reciprocate in the same manner.
Earlier, during the day, the Shiv Sainiks had planned to stop the Delhi-Lahore bus, but its route was changed from Doraha.
Irked by the development, they blocked the national highway near Sherpur Chowk for nearly an hour. They then stopped eight trucks belonging to J&K. The drivers were allegedly assaulted.
Rajiv Tandon and Sanjiv Dhanoli along with their supporters forced the truck drivers to remove their shirts, raise anti-Pakistan slogans and burn the Pakistani flag.
Later, on the intervention of the police, the truck drivers were allowed to leave.
Harjinder Singh, SHO, said: “Two trucks were stopped. The drivers were respectfully told to get down from the vehicles. They raised pro-India and anti-Pakistan slogans.”
The police late in the evening registered a case against Tandon and his aides under Sections 341, 153-A and 149 of the IPC.
