Mussoorie, April 23
Members of the Mussoorie Traders Association along with Congress-supported MC ward member Vinod Semwal and BJP local unit vice-president Mohan sat on a dharna at Picture Palace as a mark of protest
against the hot-mixing work being done on The Mall road by PWD.
The agitated traders said the level of the road had risen considerably due to the hot-mixing work being done. As a result, the shops would get flooded during rainy season.
Mussoorie Traders Association president Rajat Aggarwal and secretary Javed Khan were among those who raised slogans against the PWD.
The traders said that they had warned the department about the problem of waterlogging that the shopkeepers would have to face if the road was not dug up first and the level reduced considerably, but no action was taken on it.
MC president Manmohan Singh Mall reached the site of the dharna and tried to pacify the traders by promising their talk with the PWD.
Junior engineer Sansaar Singh said the PWD would construct a proper drainage system so that the
water does not enter the shops on either side of The Mall during the rains.
Several residents of the town have termed this protest as unwarranted. They alleged that it was an exercise to gain political mileage in view of the forthcoming election of the MC president.
