Intermittent showers for the past couple of days and snow in the higher reaches lowered the mercury of the entire region.

Kullu and Manali towns experienced irregular showers throughout the day while higher mountain peaks of the district were covered with fresh snow. The snowfall also hampered the snow-clearing operations by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) on the Manali-Rohtang Pass road.

The prevailing weather conditions have hampered the routine life and most of the residents preferred to remain indoors. However, a large number of enthusiastic tourists enjoyed gondola rides and other activities in snow at Solang Nullah.

The persistent rains had triggered many landslides in different regions of this district, thereby affecting road connectivity at some rural areas. The vehicular traffic was disrupted on the Aut-Luhri National Highway. Besides, Basturi, Peej, Kothi, Malana and various other link roads were blocked due to landslides.

The main road near Sarwari region of Kullu town has become a major threat for commuters as stones and boulders fall from the road-side hill. The main entrance and exit to the Kullu bus station are located in this area. Various NGOs had suggested strengthening of the loose strata of the hill to prevent any mishap. However, the entire stretch remains a hazard for the commuters.
