Villagers from the Silla-Sarona nyaya panchayat are ecstatic at getting a road to their villages. The trial run of the roads was conducted on Saturday.

The villagers organised a small function on Saturday and thanked Mussoorie MLA Ganesh Joshi for his effort to get the road constructed by offering sweets and garlanding him.

The villagers would now be able to reach hospitals and agriculture markets with ease, as compared to the past when it took hours to reach Dehradun.

Joshi said he was indeed fortunate that he had some role to play in getting the road sanctioned as the previous Congress MLA had failed to get the approval. He said Rs 4.50 crore had also been approved for other roads in the region.

The MLA said the long-standing demand of the villagers for connectivity of the Kaldigad-Sarona road had been fulfilled. It had taken only 35 minutes from Shastra Dhara road to Sarona village, cutting down the distance from Dehradun to Dhanaulti and Uttarkashi by more than two hours.

The estimated cost of the road had been around Rs 1.75 crore. Around Rs 13.50 crore had been sanctioned for the concretisation of the road from Naali village to Kaldigad, which would be completed within a month and the road would then be called Dehradun Suva Kholi Bypass road, he stated.

Joshi said there were some shortcomings in few bends on the road and he had directed the PWD officials to rectify them without delay.

Speaking on the Gairsain Assembly session, Joshi said the Congress Government was indulging in sentimental blackmailing on the issue. The state government was colluding with officials and spending several crores in the name of Gairsain Assembly construction work but was not ready to provide funds to the panchayats in Gairsain.

The ministers and the Congress MLAs were not ready to disclose their assets despite the pleas of the Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal which proved that they were buried in corruption. If a CBI enquiry was conducted, most of the Congress ministers would be in jail for the scams committed during the 2013 flash floods, Joshi added.
