Famous Punjabi singer Hans Raj Hans’s personal gunman allegedly shot himself with his AK-47 rifle outside the singer’s house on the link road here around 2.25 am today. The police are investigating the case from all angles.
Victim Jasbir Singh (52) of Tung village near Patti in Tarn Taran was a constable. He had been attached to the singer for the past six years. His brother Sukhminder Singh is a police post in charge in Tarn Taran.
The singer’s brother Amrik Singh and son Yuvraj Hans were at home when the incident took place. Hans Raj was reportedly at Dera Beas.
The victim, along with head constable Gurbax Singh, lived in a makeshift tent outside the singer’s house. Gurbax woke up on hearing the gunshots and found Jasbir lying in a pool of blood. He immediately raised the alarm and informed Hans Raj’s brother, SHO Paramjit said.
The SHO said prima facie, it was an accidental death. Paramjit said Jasbir was shot in the head. He said it appeared that the weapon was in automatic mode as the entire magazine containing 23 bullets was fired. “It seems the victim fell asleep and pressed the trigger accidentally,” the SHO said.
The victim’s wife Amarjit Kaur said Jasbir couldn’t have killed himself as he was hale and hearty. She alleged someone killed her husband.
Sources said Jasbir Singh was once suspended on the charges of getting job on the basis of fake certificates. However, he was later reinstated by the high court.
