Singer Harbhajan Mann interacted with cancer survivors and their relatives at an event, ‘Saarthak’, held at Fortis Cancer Institute on the eve of World Cancer Day here today.
Touched by their tales of courage, perseverance and positive thought, which helped them overcome the disease, Mann connected with them and also rendered a few lines from his well-known songs.
Mann said: “I am amazed to see so many men and women having put their sufferings behind them, gallantly fighting the disease, which at one time was considered incurable.”
Mann shared with them his family tryst with the disease. Mann said he lost his mother to cancer when he was very young. A few years ago, he lost his Canada-based elder brother who was so full of life. His third loss to the disease was of his cousin sister.
Mann said: “I can feel the pain and challenges all of you and your families must have gone through”.
Abhijit Singh, Facility Director, Fortis, said the never-say-die spirit in a patient was critical in taking him or her across the line to a new life, a new beginning.
Dr Rajeev Bedi, Director, Medical Oncology at the institute, said the early detection of cancer continued to be the key in saving lives.
