As a part of the ongoing international symposium, Celebrating Le Corbusier’s Chandigarh: 50 years after the master, organised by the UT in association with the Chandigarh College of Architecture, a sitar recital by Hindustani classical musicians Ustad Chhote Rehmat Khan, Rafique Khan and Avirbhav Verma was held at the Capitol Complex here today.
Hailing from Dharwad district of Karnataka, the musicians share that they were the sixth generation of musicians. “We are trained in the Hindustani classical gharana and will be performing ragas and jugalbandi today,” shared Ustad Chhote Rehmat Khan.
While talking to TNS before the concert that left the visitors spellbound, they shared that most of what they performed on stage was sheer improvisation. “Rehmat and I are brothers, and this is the second time that we are visiting the city. However, what we plan to perform on stage will all be impromptu,” says Rafique Khan.
Avirbhav Verma, who plays tabla and belongs to the Punjabi gharana, shared, “The idea is to see what the audience likes. We will be performing an evening raga.”
