Six from tricity make it to top 100

CHANDIGARH: Six tricity candidates have cleared the Union Public Service Commission UPSC civil services exam and made it to the list of top 100 successful candidates this year

Chandigarh, July 4 

Six tricity candidates have cleared the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) civil services exam and made it to the list of top 100 successful candidates this year. The topper from the tricity has bagged the 15th all-India rank.

Abhijeet Kaplish, a resident of Chandigarh, bagged 15th all-India rank and is the topper from the tricity. He is followed by Paramvir Singh Badharan from Panchkula who secured 29th rank and Arjun, a resident of Chandigarh, has got 41st rank in his second attempt. At present, he is undergoing training at the IPS academy at Hyderabad. Priyanka Mehtani from Chandigarh has got 59th rank. Apoorva Devgan has ranked 61st and is at present, training with the Indian railway traffic after he cleared the UPSC exams last year. Tusharanshu Sharma of Panchkula has scored 75th rank.

Kaplish was unable to clear the mains examination in his first attempt last year, as he failed in the Hindi examination. He needed to qualify in Hindi to be eligible to be selected for the interview.

Kaplish’s phone has been ringing incessantly since the results were declared this afternoon. Being a student of mechanical engineering, he took to preparing for UPSC exams two years ago after being inspired by his grandfather who was a Joint Secretary with the Punjab Government and is now retired.

Kaplish was excited as he would be joining the IAS soon. He has already made a plan to precede his law degree which he is pursuing from Panjab University. “If I am posted  in Punjab or Haryana I will complete my degree”, he said. Badharan said he had fulfilled his father’s dream, who died of heart attack in 2012. He got 

the  29th rank in his second attempt. Last year, he had appeared secured 619th rank.

“My dad wanted me to be a civil servant, though everybody in my family is a lawyer.” said Badharan adding that his mother had been a pillar of strength for him.
