Officials at Kashmir’s premier tertiary care hospital, Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) today accorded farewell to outgoing Director Dr Showkat Zargar on his superannuation.
The faculty members hailed the contributions of Dr Zargar for his work in strengthening SKIMS by putting in place several measures which helped in improving the healthcare.
Dr Zargar, who did his DM in gastroenterology from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, in 1988, started his career as a registrar in Government Medical College, Srinagar, in 1981. He later joined the institute as a senior resident the same year.
Subsequently, Dr Zargar was elevated to the post of the head of the Gastroenterology Department, SKIMS, in 1998. He was appointed as the director in 2011 for five years.
Dr Zargar thanked the faculty for holding the event and expressed satisfaction on completion of his term as director. He added that he would continue to work for betterment of the institution.
