Shimla, January 10
The task to convert Shimla into Smart City started today with the launch of public engagement phase by Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh by filling the prescribed form with suggestions for the all-round growth of the city.
Expressing his suggestions, the Chief Minister said all rooftops should be regularly painted in the city to give it a beautiful look matching with that of a hill station. A system should be evolved to curb social evils like drug menace so that youth energy could be channellised into creative works.
Virbhadra appealed to the public to give their suggestions for making Shimla a model city not only in the state but also in the entire country. He said suggestions of commoners were important for the better growth of any society and their views should be incorporated for future development of any area. He said 1.5 lakh forms to be distributed to seek public suggestions.
He asked planners, doctors, engineers and experts to express their opinion for better development of Shimla. He said green patches in and around Shimla should be developed into beautiful parks.
He said heritage buildings in the city should be preserved under the retrofitting process to enhance their eminence and beauty which could be a major tourist attraction. The crowded streets of the city should also be decongested with the cooperation of residents.
Virbhadra said the smart city proposal would only be finalised through suggestions of Shimlaites.
