World Snow Day was celebrated at the Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering (IISM) in north Kashmir’s ski resort Gulmarg here today .
An IISM statement said World Snow Day wascelebrated every year by the International Ski Federation (FIS) and the institute organised the event with an aim to attract the youth towards snow sports.
It said the IISM invited the youth of the Valley and other parts of the country and gave them an opportunity to participate in various snow sports free of cost. In all, 30 students of Central Kashmir University participated in the event.
JS Dhillon, Principal, IISM, Gulmarg, said these types of events not only provided an opportunity to the youth to pursue snow sports but also went a long way in promoting winter tourism. “IISM-Gulmarg celebrates this day every year and makes elaborate arrangements for the local youth to join this event. These types of events could be fully exploited by the Tourism Department to attract tourists to the Valley,” Dhillon added.
