Nurpur, July 25
Yogi Seth, a philanthropist from Pathankot (Punjab), is on a mission to solemnise marriages of girls from poor families. Earlier he took up this noble cause in Pathankot area and now doing it in Nurpur villages.
He has been meeting all the expenses for solemnising these marriages of poor girls for the past around two decades.
On Sunday, he shouldered the responsibility of the marriage of Poonam, daughter of late Dhani Ram of Hatli Jawalan village, with Pankaj. The marriage was celebrated in the local customary manner. He performed the ‘Kanyadaan’ ceremony of the bride. He bore expenses for all wedding arrangements, including necessary gifts such as utensils, beddings, furniture and clothes. He blessed the newly wedded couple after the marriage ceremony. It was the third such marriage solemnised by him.
Seth said he had been inspired by the late Kailash Mahajan, wife of late former minister and MLA of Nurpur Sat Mahajan, who had been solemnising marriages of girls of the poor and needy families.
“After my mother’s death in 1991, I had decided to extend financial succor to poor and solemnise the marriage of at least one girl every year. I and members of my family have been feeling satisfying after doing this noble job,” he asserted.
