Son of Kumar Medicos owner was driving BMW

A day after an overspeeding BMW car hit a motorcycle near the PGI killing the motorcyclist and leaving the pillion rider seriously injured, the police today identified the accused as Arun Kumar, who is in his early twenties and whose father is the owner of Kumar Medicos in Sector 11. He was arrested and later released on bail.
A 25-year-old youth riding a motorcycle was killed while the pillion rider was seriously injured when the speeding BMW hit them on the Khuda Lahora-PGI road near the PGI gate last night.
According to the police, the victim has been identified as Suraj, a native of Agra, while the injured is Raju. Both were working at a factory in the Industrial Area. The accused is a resident of Sector 2, Chandigarh.
Inspector Narinder Patial, SHO of the Sector 11 police station, said the duo riding the motorcycle took a U-turn opposite Gate No. 3 of the PGI when the speeding BMW, that was coming from the Khuda Lahora side, hit the motorcycle. “The duo was probably coming from the night food street after having food and was heading back home,” the SHO said.
The luxury sedan was at a very high speed due to which the motorcycle skidded several metres after getting hit.
The air bags of the car opened due to the accident and its front portion was badly damaged.
The injured were rushed to the PGI where doctors declared Suraj brought dead while Raju is undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The police said the accused was returning from Khuda Lahora after dropping his servant at their storeroom. The police said the motorcycle was registered at an address of Sector 25 in the name of some third person.
The family of the deceased was informed about the accident. The body has been kept at the mortuary.
The family members of injured Raju reached the hospital. A case under Sections 279 (rash driving), 304-A (causing death due to negligence) and 337 (causing hurt by an act endangering the life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against the accused at the Sector 11 police station. He was arrested and later released on bail.
Accused fled from the spot?
Sources said the accused fled away from the spot after the accident and later surrendered at the police station. However, police officials claimed that the accused did not flee from the spot.
