The Medical Council of India (MCI) has recently announced an e-tracking biometric system for keeping a check on attendance of resident doctors and faculty. The step would be implemented in all medical colleges of the state.
Recently, two resident doctors of Doon Medical College had proceeded on leave without informing the authorities.
“It is a centralised project for which the Central Government will be providing budget. We expect to start work here in the coming two to three months,” said Pradip Bharti, principal, Doon Medical College.
The system is expected to increase accountability, ensuring entire attendance data of all resident doctors and faculty members of medical colleges. It is linked through their aadhar cards to the MCI websites but certain technicalities, like tracking of attendance of doctors who are on emergency duties and night duties, is still being worked out. Under this system, all doctors will be issued a radio frequency identification (RFID) registration card which will allow them to register with the MCI only one time.
However, along with increasing accountability, the system will also make the entire medical college system transparent and accessible. The project would be rolled out under the Digital Mission Mode Project (DMMP).
The biometric project will be applied in around 439 medical colleges across the country.
