An acclaimed Sufi singer, Ustad Khadim Hussain Warsi from Pakistan, left the audience spellbound during a solo concert, organised by the North Zone Cultural Centre (NZCC) and the Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi (CSNA) at Randhwa Auditorium, Punjab Kala Bhawan, here today. Akademi chairman Kamal Arora welcomed chief guests Anurag Aggarwal, Secretary, Cultural Affairs, UT, and Dr Rajinder Singh Gill, Director, NZCC, Patiala.
Khadim Hussain Warsi , a devout Sufi singer is a caretaker at the darbar of Baba Waris Shah at Jandiala Sher Khan village in Pakistan.
He comsmenced his recital with dohas of Baba Farid before doling out soulful kalaams like “Alf Alla Chambe Di Buti” of Sufi mystic Sultan Bahu.
Amidst the applause, he sang “Mein Tere Qurbaan” with other kalaams of Baba Bulle Shah. He was at his best with the rendition of “Mayen Ni Mein Kinhu Ahaan Dard Bichhore Da haal”, written by Shah Hussain.
He also rendered kalaams of Mian Muhammad Baksh.
Later, he mesmerised the audience with the rendition of “Heer”. Flute maestro Vevel Sharma augmented the recital.
Musical tribute to singing legend
Veteran Bollywood playback singer Usha Timothi paid rich tributes to legendary singer Mohammad Rafi during the tenth edition of the annual programme “Muhjko Mere Baad Zamana Dhoondhega”, organised by the Department of Cultural Affairs, Haryana, at Tagore Theatre here today.
The programme was dedicated to the memory of the golden voiced vocalist Ratnika Tewari. Many eyes were moist as her brother Sanjiv Tewari lighted the traditional lamp and each of her bhajan, geet and ghazal were played.
She doled out her hit numbers like “Jab-Jab Bahaar Ayi”, “Ik Haseen Sham Ko”, “Suno Sajna” and most tempting duet “Jo Vaada Kiya Woh..” with former bureaucrat Roshan Lal amid deafening applause. She also shared her cherished memories with Rafi Sahib. More bureaucrats and singers SS Parsad and Ranju Parsad also presented songs.
