Srinagar, May 21
A digital cocoon cold storage plant is being established in Srinagar to promote silk industry in the state.
This was assured by Union Minister for Textiles Santosh Kumar Gangwar to J&K Minister for Agriculture Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura today when the latter called on him in New Delhi. The two discussed promotion and development of sericulture and silk industry in J&K.
“The Union Minister also assured technical and financial support to J&K to develop its silk industry on modern lines. Some new and innovative schemes in seed and post cocoon sectors to boost cocoon production were discussed in the meeting. A high-tech digital cold storage plant proposed to be installed at Srinagar to hibernate silkworm seed was also discussed,” an official spokesman said.
Hanjura discussed the continuation of Central funding scheme on 90:10 basis for the sericulture sector in J&K. The minister was accompanied with Director, Sericulture, J&K, Malik Farooq.
