Mihir, a Class IX student of St Kabir Public School, Chandigarh, has been chosen to be a part of the lead group for the Republic Day parade unit of the NCC this year in New Delhi. Training hard at the camp in Delhi, he is the only candidate selected from the city.
Gurpreet Bakshi, administrator of the school, said, “Every year, around 36 lakh NSS students from all over India go to attend this camp and of them, 200 students are selected from five zones.”
He said Chandigarh was in the north zone, which included Chandigarh, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, and Punjab. “The students are then sent to the pre-Republic Day camp organised in Chandigarh and of the 200 students, one candidate is selected. We are proud that our student has been selected among all,” Bakshi said. An overwhelmed Mihir said, “This is a dream come true. I have been regularly taking part in cultural activities and parade drills in school and at the city level, representing my school, but it is a matter of celebration for me as I have got a chance to represent the city at the national level.”
