Standard operating procedure for RTAs

The state government has issued a framework for implementation of standard operating procedure (SOP) at all the Regional Transport Authorities (RTAs) of the state.

An official spokesman said the framework would ensure effective implementation of SOPs for various activities, including learner’s driving licence, permanent driving licence, renewal of driving licence, duplicate licence, endorsement of new class in driving licence, grant of fitness certificate, registration of new motor vehicle, duplicate registration certificate, transfer of registration certificate, no objection certificate, registration of out of state vehicles, addition or removal of hypothecation, along with state and national permit.

He said information on processes, documents and fees would be made available on the website of the Transport Department. A list of jurisdiction of RTAs would be made available to all vehicle dealers and agencies. He said that the district administration websites would be linked to that of the department’s to ensure that standardised information was provided across the state. Promotion of online applications would be done through mass media and notice boards providing information on processes, documents and fees would be made available at the RTA’s office.

The spokesman said facilitation desks would be set up in all RTA offices. Trained personnel would assist people in filling online application forms at the facilitation desks. Besides, the applicants would be able to retrieve and print online documents like copy of DDR, traffic challan and the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report.

Standardised bilingual files covers would be designed by the Transport Department. The file cover would be colour coded, with primary information about the application along with an index of required forms and documents as well as a space to list down deficiencies.
