Starcast of the upcoming Punjabi movie ‘Mitti Na Pharol Jogiya’ was in the city today. Actors Kartar Cheema and Japtej Singh along with director Avtar Singh visited here for the promotion of the movie. Noted poet Surjit Patar, who has penned one of the songs of the movie titled ‘Dilbara’, was also present on the occasion.
Singh said the movie was a historical drama which shows the impact of post Indo-Pak partition politics on many families on both sides of the border. He said the movie was much different than that kind of Punjabi films were being made these days. Other actors in the movie are Rupinder Rupi, Sanju Solanki, Razia Sukhbir, Damanpreet and Navdeep Kaler and it is scheduled to release on May 8.
This is based on the true story of Sangrur, of a person who saved 27 Muslim girls during the ‘rehabilitation’ after the partition of the country. The protagonist in the movie is Sucha Singh, played by Kartar Cheema.
Surjit Patar said rather than earlier movies that shows Pakistan in bad light, this movie shows the humanity on both sides of the border, love and harmony.
Young actor Japtej Singh, who made a debut in popular Bollywood movie Bhaag Mikha Bhaag, said he enjoyed his first Punjabi film and it was a great learning experience for him.
