State gets 1st international cricket stadium

Dehradun, December 13

The first international cricket stadium of Uttarakhand at Raipur in Dehradun will get inaugurated on December 16. Chief Minister Harish Rawat will inaugurate the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in the presence of Rajeev Shukla, Member of Parliament and president of the Indian Premier League. The opening ceremony of the stadium will be celebrated with a cricket match between the teams of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, in which star players like Suresh Raina, Piyush Chawla and Praveen Kumar will participate. Indian Idol fame singer Abhijeet Sawant will also give a live performance on the occasion.

Sports Minister Dinesh Aggrawal gave this information in a press conference held at Raipur Sports College here today. He said, “Inaugurating our first international cricket stadium is a great occasion for the sporting history of Uttarakhand. The state government has tried its best to construct this stadium, so that state can achieve the stature of international level. The work on another cricket stadium at Haldwani is also completed and that will be inaugurated on December 18. We hope soon the BCCI will give affiliation to our cricket association.”

On the occasion the state government will also launch the logo and mascot of 38th National Games, which are supposed to be held here in 2018. The international stadiums of Dehradun and Haldwani will be used as the main venue for national games, he added.
