State govt sets up hi-tech cattle breeding centre at Patiala

The Punjab Government has set up a hi-tech Centre of Excellence for cattle breeding at Rauni Farm with a cost of Rs 42.19 crore. The centre is equipped with hi-tech scientific infrastructure and will be promoting high milk yielding cattle varieties.

Animal Husbandry Minister Gulzar Singh Ranike said the centre had been brought up under the National Agriculture Development Plan as part of the diversification policy conceived by the government, the animal husbandry and dairy development and fisheries was being encouraged as an alternative and remunerative trade in Punjab.

He said a modern breeding farm will prove to be a boon for the promising dairy farmers. He also said in order to ensure absolute health cover to the livestock, the government has asked the veterinary doctors to provide periodic health checkups to the animals and extend immediate medical care to them. 

He said the Punjab Government was giving special attention to create conducive atmosphere at the Center for Cattle Breeding Farm for standardised breeding of animals. This will increase the prospects of producing quality semen for developing quality bulls. Similarly, breeding of high quality of HF, Jersey and Sahewal cows will be enhanced in the State and the all process of breeding secured in the hi-tech ETT labs by using of modernise technology.        

To impart instructional expertise to the dairy farmers, the government has set up exclusive training centres where practical training based on scientific experiments will be provided in the presence of the established renowned dairy farmers. To cater to the needs of local farmers, they will be acquainted with the latest research done in the fields of cattle breeding and dairy farming in local dialects.
