Being a lover of art and music, I was very happy that some NGOs, including Sarbat Da Bhala Trust and Ludhiana Bhalai Manch, have installed the statue of legendary Punjabi folk singer Lal Chand Yamla Jatt at a park near the Inter-state bus terminal after a span of 23 years. The statue in question has witnessed seen many ups and downs during the span of more than two decades. Thank God it has finally found its permanent place. The Yamla Jatt Park has also been redeveloped and for this the credit goes to the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation. Music and Art can never become old. "Tumbi" long ignored, found its new exponent in Yamla Jatt, who sang all his songs accompanied with it, popularised them with Punjabi people and his contribution with this musical instrument immortalised him.

Everyone’s responsible
The railway station and the main bus stand are two major places in Ludhiana where people visit daily for their respective journeys. It is disgusting to see filth at both public places. Daily so many dignitaries and foreigners come to the city by rail or in buses for various purposes and get a very poor impression of our city on their very first visit. We are always in the habit of blaming others for such a situation but we are all responsible for the poor maintenance of these important places. Three main authorities- the railways, civic body and the contractor of the bus stand do not work in unison. The civic authority is a unifying authority between them but it seems there is no appropriate link between them. Our public is also responsible for this as they do not follow the norms of cleanliness. They throw waist material anywhere. Now, when Ludhiana has been included in the list of Smart Cities, our responsibilities have increased tremendously.
