The DCP said the app would be launched formally on Monday. Initially, the app would be available on android-based platform at google play store.

“Soon apple and windows-based phone users will also be able to avail the facility,” the DCP said.

ACP, Gill, Gurpreet Kaur Purewal has been made the in charge of the special cell constituted for quick response received through the app.

By clicking the help button displayed on the screen or shaking the mobile phone, an SOS message would be sent to the police and three members of the family.

Further, women could share their view with the police and inform them about the time and place unsafe for women.

The app would be commissionrate centric and 14 dedicated response teams supported by PCRs would work round the clock for the safety of women, DCP Bhargav said.

Further, the app would provide the phone number of the nearest police station.

Pritpal Singh, consultant of the city police and the brain behind this app, said Stree Samman was equipped with plenty of options. Besides mapping the area infested by eve-teasers, the app would incorporate school and college principals who could further alert students of their respective colleges.

Pritpal Singh said the app was available as a free download via google play.

“A user needs to download the app. After successful registration, the user gets a registration key (OTP) which needs to be entered to complete the configuration,” Pritpal Singh said.

“As soon as a user of Stree Samman app raises an SOS alert, the location and a message will flashed at the police control room. The city police can then immediately send the nearest police help to the victim,” Pritpal said.
