Students of various institutions affiliated to Kurukshetra University have been running from pillar to post for necessary corrections in their degrees and detailed marksheets for almost a year, but in vain.
Bhavya Chhabra, a student of Chemical Engineering at Jai Parkash Mukand Lal Institute of Technology (JMIT), Radaur, could not get his degree since his name had been spelled in the degree as ‘Bhaya’ instead of Bhavya. Though he contacted the university many times, he was informed that “no such degree has been received for correction”.
However, Ishwar Aggarwal, registrar, JMIT, Radaur, said Bhavya’s degree had been sent for correction to the university on April 18, 2015, which had been duly received by the examination branch of the university. He said the institute had been pursuing the matter with the university by sending its staff time and again. “We had sent 34 such cases of correction of degrees from the JMIT to the university in April 2015, but only three have been corrected till date,” he said.
Sources said students were compelled to visit the university and the institute time and again and were not getting any response from any official. They were suffering for no fault of theirs.
Kapish Kumar of JMIT from Sonepat said, “Students have to submit their degrees for jobs and placement drives in various companies or government departments as a proof of completion of their engineering degrees.”
Anup Singh, a student from another institute, said it was high time that the university evolved the system of generation of degrees/DMCs and other documents online on the completion of course to save students from unnecessary frustration and agony.
Dr Praveen Saini, Registrar, Kurukshetra University, said, “This year, we are going to introduce a web portal on a trial basis to solve this problem. The particulars of students, which are now filled in university form by clerk, will be uploaded on portal by students themselves. It will minimise the possibility of mistakes of spellings, names and others things.”
