Mohali officials and mediapersons got a chance to see the witty side of Sukhbir Badal during the launch of a mechanised sweeping project in Mohali recently. On Mohali left out of the race for the Smart City tag, Badal said, “Don’t worry, I will give you ‘smart’ mayor soon.” In reply to a mediaperson’s query on the volatile relationship between the alliance partners in the state, SAD and BJP, the Deputy Chief Minister was quick to answer, “Tusi jinna marzi zor laga lo, eh rishta nhi tuttna (how hard you may try, the relationship is not going to break)”, leaving all those present in splits. On another tricky question, he quipped: “I am not going to give you any headline by answering this question”.
When one protest led to calling off of another
PU student parties had a mutual understanding against holding a strike or announce any panel on August 7 as the university faculty was organising a protest against the Union Government on the day. Student party leaders instructed their party workers not to plan any protest as the officials, who had accepted their memorandums, were also on strike. They also directed them that no announcement of the panel be done as mediapersons would give prominence to the protest by faculty rather than student events.
For councillors, dropping Dev’s name does the trick
Not only public but even councillors are these days using UT Adviser Vijay Kumar Dev’s name in front of MC and UT officials to get their works done. If the works such as clearing road gullies or sewerage lines, repairing potholed roads etc. are not done, area councillors tell civic body employees to complete the works, otherwise local residents or he/she would raise the issue before the UT Adviser. Interestingly, they had been finding that using Dev’s name was helping in getting works done.
Inspection impact!
Ever since Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar inspected the Sector 5 police station on August 2 and pointed out that the premises were untidy, cops in the town have been diligently cleaning their respective police stations. The entire area in front of the police station building, which was full of wild growth and abandoned vehicles, was cleaned within two hours to develop a park. When it came to naming the park, the Commissioner of Police decided to call it “Nirikshan Vatika” (inspection park) as it was inspected by the CM.
Alert for an unalert cop
With rising incidents of accused fleeing from custody while being brought to the District Courts, a UT police Sub-Inspector reprimanded his junior after he saw him standing in a casual way while producing a thief before the court. “The way you are standing, it was certain that the thief will escape. Please be alert or you will lose your job,” the cop shouted aloud in the court.
