Keeping its business activity suspended for five days, the Central Poultry Development Organisation (CPDO), Northern Region, began the sale of chicken and eggs at the sale counter of its breeding farm located in Industrial Area, Phase I, Chandigarh, today.
A large number of wholesale and retail shopkeepers had lined up before the main gate of the farm early in the morning for eggs and poultry, especially quails and chicken.
The quails’ eggs were in great demand at the farm. The entire stock of eggs was sold in less than three hours. Today, all activities were back to normal there.
Dr Ravi Kumar, Director, CPDO, Chandigarh, said the situation was under control at the farm.
“The livestock at the farm is safe and the situation is under control,” claimed Kumar.
Taking precautionary measures after a sample of a Sukhna Lake goose was tested positive for the virus by the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases Laboratory (HSADL), Bhopal, on December 16, the CPDO had stopped supplies of eggs and birds at its counter.
The CPDO has been supplying hatching eggs to government-owned organisations of nine states, including Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, besides selling chickens and eggs among public.
