Pithoragarh, April 6
A team of geologists and sociologists is surveying 21 earthquake prone border villages in Dharchula, Munsiyari and Kanalichina blocks of the district. The survey is being done to ascertain whether or not the villages require rehabilitation.
An official of the district disaster management office said the survey was being done after the declaration of over 100 villages as sensitive. Of these, 21 villages are the most sensitive. “The survey team, which will complete the work in two months, comprises two geologists, a sociologist and a civil engineer,” said RS Rana, disaster management officer of Pithoragarh district.
He said the possibility of resettling the disaster-affected and natural calamity-prone villages in nearby areas was being looked into as the hill villagers didn’t want to go out of their localities owing to their social set-up.
