Swami Ramanand Sahitya Samman of 2017 has been awarded to noted lyricist, poet and former Member of Parliament Balkavi Bairagi. Bairagi has made significant contributions to the Hindi literature, which includes poetry and lyrics of 25 Hindi films.
The award instituted by the Baba Banda Bahadur International Foundation was presented to him in Chandigarh yesterday.
Swami Ramanand was a great Hindu saint of the 15th century. He was the guru of Kabir Das, Dhanna Bhagat and several other religious reformers of that period. He is also known for reforms in Sanatan Dharam.
Ramanand Sect has many temples in the country, including Salasar Balaji, Hanuman temple in Imphal, Mahavir temple of Patna and Bairagi Math of Chennai.
