Tanakpur-Pilibhit rail line to be broad gauge
Pithoragarh, May 9
The 62-km gauge railway line between Tanakpur in Uttarakhand and Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh is being closed from May 15 to December 30 for operations. The work of converting the line into broad-gauge is on at a war footing, the railway authorities said.
“The railway line, constructed by the British in 1910 with the intention of tapping forest wealth of the Kumaon region, is being converted into broad gauge by railways under the project which was planned eight years ago,” said KD Kapri, station in charge of Tanakpur railway station.
The railway authorities said the track between Pilibhit to Bhojipura had already been converted into broad gauge after it was closed for operation on January 16. — OC
