Chandigarh: Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Monday announced that an elite force comprising 250 Punjab Police personnel - equipped with latest weapons and gadgetry - would be created in the state to deal with terror attacks, hijackings and any other emergency. He was addressing a function here after handing over the appointment letters to 768 cops, including 125 sportspersons. He stated that of the total strength of 70,000 personnel in the state police, the SAD-BJP government has recruited more than 26,000 personnel in the past nine years or so. Sukhbir handed over job letters to top sportspersons as DSPs under the new sports policy. TNS
