Angry villagers blocked the Dadri-Delhi road for several hours today after a speeding dumper mowed down three youths near Imlota village in Charkhi Dadri district.
The deceased have been identified as brothers Tinku and Manish and another youth Monu, a resident of Imlota village. They were going home from their fields when the incident happened.
The police said the driver of the dumper was reportedly in an inebriated condition and lost control on wheels. The vehicle ran over the three youths walking on the road and then rammed into the wall of a water boosting station. A motorcyclist was also injured.
The police said the driver of the dumper fled soon after the incident. A case has been registered against him at Sadar police station and a hunt launched to nab him.
Villagers gathered at the accident site and blocked the road alleging negligence on the part of the authorities concerned. Narender Singh, a protester, alleged that a number of accidents had taken place on the road due to over-speeding.
The villagers relented after four hours on an assurance by Dadri SP Sunil Dalal to look into their grievance.
