The state government has sought the status report of the maintenance contract scam from the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation that resulted in losses of Rs 13.6 crore between 2006 and 2014. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is already probing the matter.

In December last year, the CBI registered an FIR against former Superintending Engineer RC Diwan, former Superintending Engineer SR Aggarwal, former Chief Engineer SK Bansal, Bishwadeep Dutta, general manager of Selvel Media Services, and some “unknown persons”. Dewan and Bansal are from Punjab and Aggarwal from Haryana.

Sources revealed a representative of the Punjab Government reached Chandigarh MC office to seek the status report of the case from the Chandigarh MC as the extension case of former SE RC Diwan was pending. The Punjab Government has already written to the Chandigarh MC in this regard.

On March 31, 2014, the CBI registered a preliminary enquiry into the allotment of a tender to a private firm - Selvel Media Services - for operation and maintenance of 86 public toilets in 2007.

Then the CBI officers took away the documents related to the case from the sub-office of the MC at the ISBT, Sector 17. Some company officials were also questioned.

The probe had started after a Panchkula-based firm, Taksh Media, complained to the agency that there were financial irregularities and terms were tweaked to favour Selvel Media.
